A Customary Court in Igando, Lagos has dissolved the marriage between a 61-year-old Christian cleric, Matthew Majiyagbe and his wife Bunmi who is a 48-year-old fashion designer. The estranged man of God appealed to the court to end his marriage after he claimed that his sex organs stop working anytime he is about to make love to his wife.

According to the president of the customary court, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, Matthew insisted on a divorce in spite of several attempts made by the court to reconcile them. He stated;

“The court was left with no option than to grant him his wish. “Both of you henceforth cease to be husband and wife; each of you should go on his/her separate way unmolested”. The president however gave the mother custody of their child and ordered Matthew to pay N5,000 monthly in child support, take care of the child’s education and pay an amount of N250,000 to his wife for rehabilitation.

The clergyman, accused his wife of peddling false stories about him and a female evangelist in his church. According to him, his wife was telling church members and outsiders what her husband was having an affair with the evangelist. A story he denied stating that “I only asked the evangelist to take over one of my church branches but my wife accused me of having an affair with her, and that has brought division among my members.”

His response to his wife’s other accusation of not wanting to sleep with her was that she wore charms to bed and the charms caused his sex organs to become weak. “I stopped making love to my wife in January 2018 because my sex organ no longer functions since she started tying a fetish object on her neck whenever we wanted to make love.” He therefore begged the court to dissolve the marriage before his wife kills him.

The woman, Bunmi, blamed her husband’s lack of game in bed on the soft drinks he usually takes and not the charms around her neck. She said “I stopped making love to my wife in January 2018 because my sex organ no longer functions since she started tying a fetish object on her neck whenever we wanted to make love.” She also accused her husband of threatening to marry another woman because he said she was not attractive enough. “He later brought our church evangelist to take over our church branch I was handling. He told me that if I refused to pack out, he would divorce me; days after, I received a court divorce summons,” she added.

Bunmi however pleaded with the court not to annul the marriage because she still loved her husband but as things stand, that was not accepted.
